If you are moving to Australia for an extended period of time, you have to give the Australian government a good reason to let you do so. Depending on your profile and preference, there are multiple pathways you can choose from to immigrate to Australia from India. Here are the options available for Australia immigration from India.

You can move to Australia from India as a skilled migrant (permanent visa). Under this category, you need to choose an occupation from SOL (Skilled Occupation List) or CSOL (Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List) to apply for desired visa category.

If you are looking to move to Australia as skilled migrants, you need to clear Australia's point-based immigration system. The points will be allocated based on your age, education, work experience, English Proficiency, etc., factors. The minimum score you need to achieve an on-point system is 60 points. However, a higher score will enhance your chances of getting selected. If your profile is selected under this category, you will get an invitation to apply for the visa.

Skilled Migration Category: If you choose to apply under this category, the authority will review your profile based on your skills, experience, and other profile details. The Skilled Independent Visa subclass 189 is the visa available under this category. First, you need to choose an occupation from the SOL list and then submit an EOI (Expression of Interest) on Skill Select (an online system to process skilled visa EOIs). If your profile selected, you will get ITA (invitation to apply) for a visa.

Sponsored/Nominated Category: It's a Sponsored Visa Category. Hence, if you are applying under this category, you first need to get the nomination from an Australian State or Employer and choose an occupation from the CSOL list. The Sponsored or nominated category of visas can be further divided into two subcategories, i.e. the visas under this category allow you permanent residency in Australia, i.e. Skilled-Nominated Visa (subclass 190), Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186), and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187).

The temporary work visa allows you to work in Australia for up to 4 years. The visas under this category are the sponsored visas, i.e.
Temporary Skill Shortage visa subclass 482
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa subclass 491

These visas can be converted into permanent residency later on with certain conditions. To apply under this category, you need to first get the sponsorship/nomination from an eligible employer or the state or territory government in Australia.

If you are a spouse or relative of a permanent resident or citizen in Australia, you can also immigrate to Australia and get permanent residency. However, you can apply under this category of visas provided you are being sponsored by the:

  • Australian citizens.
  • Permanent residents.
  • An eligible New Zealand citizen.

The sponsor needs to be the one among the partner/spouse/parent or relative of the visa applicant.
